The day’s pleasant surprise: ease of travel, with no backup heading in and parking space outside the rented broom closets that’ll never feel like our missing newsroom. The unpleasant one: learning an Alden subsidiary now owns the defunct Greyhound station where I came to Oakland for good in early 1995.

A Falck ambulance with its lights aglow and their glint reflecting on rain wet sidewalks parks along 27th Street just west of Harrison Street around midday Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Oakland, California while waiting to respond to an Oakland Fire Department medical emergency call about a block away in northbound Harrison lanes.
