  1. “Soda,” growing up in northern NJ. “Pop” always sounds so Fifties to me. It wasn’t til college in Florida that I met a mid-Westerner using “pop” and thought he wa being funny.

    I think time’s an element too–when I was 10-12 (’78 – ’80) in NJ, “ex” was the word for “awesome,” a shortening of “excellent,” which was also used–the full word for emphasis.
    I’ve met people from the same region a bit older and younger, who hadn’t heard it at all.
